History of Team Visa

Team Visa was created in 2002 to capitalise on the advent of the Athens 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As a worldwide partner of the Olympic Games since 1986 and of the Paralympic Games since 2002, Visa created Team Visa to fuse and bring national relevance and interest to its global sponsorships.

The success of Team Visa for the Athens 2004 Games led to its continuation for the Torino 2006 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and now also the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and London 2012 Olympic Games.

Visa feels strongly that there is no difference in the commitment, dedication, ability and inspiration needed to become a Paralympic athlete and that of an Olympic performer. It is an important facet of Team Visa that the programme is non-discretionary and open to Olympic and Paralympic prospects.

For Beijing 2008, Team Visa CEMEA has thirteen Olympic athletes and one Paralympic athlete.
