Card safety abroad

Visa cards not only make travelling easier, they make it safer. Unlike cash, they can be blocked and replaced if they are lost or stolen — so you should report it immediately if your card goes missing.

All you need to do is call our Global Card Assistance Service for details. Remember to take the telephone number with you.

No matter where you are in the world, our multilingual operators will be available to help you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

They will take details of the lost or stolen card, arrange a replacement or emergency cash advance and answer any other Visa or travel-related queries.

You will need to tell them:
  • The name of the bank or other organisation that issued your card
  • The type of card it was — for example, Visa Electron, Visa Classic, Visa Gold
  • The country where the card was issued
It will speed up the process of cancelling and replacing your card if you can also tell the operator:
  • Your 16-digit Visa account number
  • Whether you have your own card account or a partner card
  • Your name as it is printed on the card
  • The address where your statement is sent
  • Your home telephone number
  • How the card went missing
  • Other personal details to enable a security check to confirm your identity (if you have a partner card, you should confirm the identity of the primary cardholder)
Before you travel
